My images of Toronto are an ongoing series that I’ve been working on for a while. So far, images from the downtown core have been part of the series, but I anticipate working further away from the centre in future. While my black and white images of Toronto focused only on architecture (in my architecture portfolio), my colour images also include streetscapes.
I’ve been applying the same aesthetic to this series as I’ve been using on Scotland, New Orleans, and Jasper. The style, a reflection of the Platonism that has been bubbling through my subconscious for more than a quarter century (the legacy of studying the history and culture of the ancient Romans and Greeks), works well with the subject matter, simultaneously representing both an idealized place and the gritty reality.
